The best part of this story is that the reporter didn't just rely on McCain and Obama campaign spokespeople. He actually went to Alaska (of course, you can do that when you work for the New York Times) and he talked to just about everyone who had ever come into contact with Palin, including those who continue to support her and those who do not. That takes the piece beyond the typical talking points of the campaign, which is what you get in a lot of political reporting.
I thought that it was interesting that he got so much information from people who were kind of iffy about Palin in the first place. Aftr she had made it harder for the media to talk to city employees and after everything she did in her first term, some people might have been a little timid to talk. However, there was a lot of information that came from a lot of different sources, which I think gave us a better idea of who Palin is politically than a spokesperson.
